Entrance Porches
The addition of a suitable porch to a building’s facade can significantly enhance its appearance. A simple elevation can add architectural interest, highlight the entrance, and provide a structure for climbing plants to grow.
We design and build timber porches customised to each property. Whether your building requires traditional detailing, modern restraint, or a blend of both styles, a bespoke porch can enhance the architectural character whilst fulfilling a practical function.
The Lansdown Porch Design
Our Lansdown Porch has been designed to be a practical and beautiful embellishment. The design merges structural posts and beams with decorative trellis panels, forming a framework that defines the entrance while allowing light and air to pass through. An infill arch provides visual closure above the doorway, softening the transition between the structure and the building.
The trelliswork and infill arch can be customised to suit each property or location. We work with you to determine the appropriate scale, proportion, and detailing for your building, ensuring the porch complements rather than overwhelms the existing architecture.
Timber Selection & Construction
We work with a variety of sustainably sourced timbers, including iroko, oak, and cedar for natural finishes, or Accoya and Sapele where painted finishes are preferred. Each timber species is chosen for its structural strength and natural durability, ensuring the porch can withstand constant exposure to the weather.
Traditional joinery techniques ensure each joint is secure and designed to last. Posts are carefully measured to support the weight of the structure and any climbing plants, while rafters and beams are proportioned to accommodate the span and loading needs. The porch trellis framework adds both decorative detail and practical support for roses, wisteria, clematis, or honeysuckle.
Transforming the Building Facade
A wooden porch influences how a building is approached and experienced. It serves as a threshold between inside and outside, defining the entrance architecturally. In period properties, a garden porch can restore lost features or add character where original details have been removed. In modern buildings, a timber porch brings warmth and texture to rendered or painted surfaces.
The structure also offers shelter from the weather, creating a protected space where one can pause before entering. This practical advantage, combined with the visual appeal, makes the porch both functional and architecturally important.
Bespoke Porches for Every Property
Every building is unique, and each entrance porch should be designed to match. We collaborate with architects, designers, and private clients to create structures that suit the proportions of the facade, reflect the character of the building, and serve the intended purpose of the space.
Site visits enable us to evaluate the building, take measurements of openings, and discuss design options before working drawings and manufacturing begins. The outcome is a customised porch designed specifically for your property, delivered and fitted by our team.
