Pergolas

A garden pergola defines space, provides structure for climbing plants, and adds architectural presence within a landscape. Each one is designed to suit the garden’s proportions, the character of the surrounding planting, and the specific purpose the structure will serve.

We design and build bespoke pergolas precisely tailored to your specifications. The options are endless. Proportions, timber choices, joinery details, and finishes can all be discussed with our expert design team, ensuring the final structure blends perfectly with its surroundings.

Designed for Individual Locations

No two gardens are identical, and no two pergolas should be either. We work with you to determine the appropriate design, scale, form, and detailing for your garden. A pergola over a terrace requires different proportions from one spanning a pathway. A structure designed to support wisteria needs sturdy beams and carefully spaced rafters. A pergola primarily serving as an architectural feature may be more restrained in its construction.

We work with landscape architects, garden designers and private clients from initial concept to installation. Site visits help us assess aspect, existing structures, access and ground conditions before starting the design process. The outcome is a timber pergola built specifically for its location.

Timber Selection & joinery

We work primarily with oak and iroko for pergola construction, both chosen for their strength and natural durability. Oak provides a traditional look and ages to soft silver tones. Iroko offers excellent stability and resistance to movement, making it especially suitable for larger spans and substantial structures.

Cedar is also available where a lighter timber is preferred, or sapele where painted finishes are specified. Each timber species is chosen to suit the pergola’s size, the expected loading from climbing plants, and the finish required. Traditional joinery techniques ensure every joint is secure and built to endure, with all structural members carefully dimensioned and finished by hand.

Pergolas with Trellis
& Integrated Features

Many pergolas feature trellis panels to offer extra support for climbing plants or to enhance privacy and enclosure. A pergola with trellis can define outdoor spaces, hide service areas, or mark transitions between different garden zones. Trellis parts can be placed on one or more sides depending on the orientation and intended purpose of the structure.

We can also create pergolas with built-in planters, seating, or lighting. Each element is carefully considered during the design process to ensure the structure functions as a unified whole instead of a collection of separate parts.

Custom Pergolas
for Every Garden

Whether you need a hardwood pergola to cover a formal terrace, a timber structure to frame a garden entrance, or a custom pergola designed around existing planting, we can build it to your specifications. The proportions and finer details are discussed with our design team, allowing you to commission a structure that meets both practical needs and aesthetic desires.

Every pergola is fully assembled in our workshop before delivery and installation. This guarantees a consistent finish and enables us to maintain quality control throughout each stage of construction.
